Summer Bucket List
Summer is right around the corner and if you’re thinking what we’re thinking there’s a lot to do and not that much time to do it! Here are 15 easy, low-budget ideas that are sure to make summer feel just like the ones you used to have as a kid.
Sleep outside – whether it’s on your backyard trampoline, at a campsite or on the beach, a night spent sleeping under the stars is the ideal way to celebrate summer.
Make a pie, from scratch – berry and stone fruit season is just around the corner and all that fresh produce deserves to be honored! Make a day of it. Buy the crust if you have to. Nothing says summer like fresh produce!
Read a book on a hammock – ok if you can’t find a hammock a beach chair will do! Perhaps a porch swing? Nothing helps you feel the season more than getting off your phone and relaxing in the great outdoors. Bonus points if the book has summer content. If you’re looking for a read, may we suggest 100 Promises? It’s sure to set the mood.
Listen to a full album – speaking of moods, nothing sets the vibe quite like listening to a full album. Pick a band you love or one you loved from summers past and listen to them all the way through. You’ll be surprised what it can do for your mood.
Go night swimming – whether it’s at a public pool or local watering hole, swimming through the sunset is the perfect way to capitalize on those warm summer nights.
Go for a hike or walk – whether it’s on your local trail or through a park, stepping outside to get some fresh air is the ultimate way to enjoy the summer weather.
Actually get something from an ice cream truck – ya, we know. Their timing is never right. But there’s something so classic about getting ice cream from the ice cream truck. So whether it’s right before dinner or just after breakfast, do yourself a favor and ignore your grown-up sense of time. Buy the ice cream and live a little!
Eat barbecue – whether you can make it yourself or whether you treat yourself to a meal out, having at least one grilled meal is a requirement for any summer bucket list. Bonus points for cooking/eating outside.
Water fight – splashing, squirt guns or even water balloons count. Having a battle royale with your friends is the way to make sure that you feel like a kid again.
Have a movie marathon – pick a film series and watch the whole thing through. You can break it up night by night or week by week, but having your own home theatre experience adds a little zazz to your nightly routine. You can do it up as much or as little as you please, but something about the sequence makes it feel special. And isn’t that what summer’s for?
Take a road trip – even if it’s just for the day. Even if it’s just in your city. Even if you take the bus. Take one day where you do something fun and different. Summer memories are made by the weird things we do. Go to a unique community event. Spend the day at a river. Get out of your comfort zone.
Look at the night sky – whether it’s for stars, the moon or even the Perseid meteor shower in August, spending a night looking up is medicine for the soul.
Make a really good sandwich – with all the fixing’s. Something about summer just screams sandwich and a little can go a long way! You can make it as simple or as gourmet as you want. Maybe even have a sandwich making competition! It’s a super fun way to spice up lunch on the go or at home.
Paint something – anything. Your bathroom, a canvas, a mug. Something about summer just begs for paint and adding a little color never hurt anyone either. Whether it’s an at home DIY project that you’ve been putting off, or a chance to express your inner artiste, painting and summer go together like…well, peanut butter and jelly.
Have a lazy morning – so much of summer is go, go, go, but having a lazy morning is the surefire way to make you feel nostalgic. Lay in bed until 10… or dare I say 11? Make brunch in your PJs. Drink juice straight from the carton. After all summer is best served well rested.
