Books Like The Summer I Turned Pretty

While it may be true that no one does summer love quite like Jenny Han, these three romance novels are certainly up for the challenge.

1.The Kissing Booth

Ok, so it’s not summer, but there is the older/best-friend’s brother trope. And while they don’t form the messiest of love triangles, there is still plenty of tension between these characters. What’s more is there’s three of them… books I mean… so it’s a series you can really sink your teeth in. An easy poolside read, perfect for the YA audience, The Kissing Booth is a fun coming of age novel that gives exactly what’s promised. And with heartthrob Jacob Elordi starring in the Netflix film, it’s a perfect bonus for once you finish reading.

2.100 Promises

We stan a summer crush, especially when it lasts, year after year. With a messy love triangle, a first love and a second chance, 100 Promises may just have you packing up and heading to the desert this summer. Think of this read as aligning more closely with the third book in The Summer I Turned Pretty series, We’ll Always Have Summer. With a runaway bride, a small town, and a complicated history this two narrator novel certainly brings the summer heat. Though not strictly a young adult novel, 100 Promises follows a love story over a decade and a half. It combines coming of age with contemporary romance in a way that’s unique and refreshing. And with nothing *too* racey, it’s still appropriate for our younger readers ;)

3.My Life with the Walter Boys

If it’s brotherly love you’re after (and I do mean triangles) then My Life with the Walter Boys is the perfect follow up to TSITP. With moody MMCs and plenty of tension all under the same roof, Ali Novak’s novel is the type of fun with the family that romance readers are after. This YA novel follows many of the classic love triangle tropes, while still finding fun ways to spice things up.
